. . .the Must Read tale that’s captivating the nation in this time of political turmoil.

A tale of heroism

The clock ticks toward the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. So does a bomb planted at a crowded Boston tourist site. A group of civilians—a grizzled school principal, a self-described techie geek, a wizened Catholic nun, and a passionate civil rights activist—stumble upon a plot to overthrow the US government. Can this motley crew team up in time to foil the terrorists and save the country? O’Mara’s latest novel probes the culture of hurt and hate, the protective force of friendship in a violent world, and the subtle power of love to heal a divided nation.

Analyze, assess, avoid, attack – gripping from the get go. The story flows from an almost perfect stream of consciousness, with the description of a mischievous little Chuckie who sets the tone for what I thought would be a light-hearted read and shifts almost immediately, but oh so well, into a tense environment; the once friendly school principal, Dr. O, becoming almost indistinguishable from the man he was that morning as he steps into the headspace of Marine Capt. Sean Padraig O’Casey.

What I thought might yet be another mildly entertaining read at best, turned out to be one of the most captivating, well-written and blood pumping story I’ve had the pleasure of reading in quite some time. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that if this got the proper coverage and marketing, I see it even hitting the big screens as an adaptation one day, maybe with Liam Neeson or Casey Affleck as our beloved Dr. O. The clarity, flow of thoughts, and transition from one sentence to the next are all in such near perfect synchronicity that I have no option but to commend this author on a job VERY well done. What O’Mara has written is a gem; that’s for sure. You’ve got one potential reader lined up and ready to purchase your book the moment it’s out.

The Reluctant Heroes Who Saved America

Hateful, racist language and bigotry fill the airways daily as America moves inexorably toward a dystopian, Aryan nation. Should one’s skin color or accent be the admit or exit ticket for our nation? In this novel set in the near future, the battle for America’s soul could not be more real. Who will step up to save our nation and the values of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness that it was founded upon? A ragtag group of everyday American unsung heroes may have found the answer; kindness and courage in the face of cruelty may just be the antidote, as we hurtle forward toward an uncertain and terrifying future.

This story is riveting from the very beginning. Chapter 1 alone was breathtaking — and then the rollercoaster ride begins! Jack’s talent as a story-spinner is on great display in this book. I wish I had his inventiveness!

American Reader Team Review

All I can say is wow! It was awesome. The story was riveting from page one, and I found the characters very authentic and engaging. I couldn’t stop reading it. The story line is all too real and hits close to home in an age where toxic, divisive language and threats are a daily occurrence. I’d call Reluctant Heroes a “must read”.

I just finished The Reluctant Heroes. What a great read! How incredibly timely given what is going on now with all the crazy, hateful rhetoric and stuff. Good writing. Whopping Adventure. I've got a bunch of friends I want to share it with for the holidays.

— ELIZABETH ATKINS award-winning middle grade novelist

A powerful descriptive journey guided by rich characters and page-turning suspense.

O'Mara certainly knows all there is to know about his Maine woods, camping, fly fishing, canoeing, paddling and portaging as only a Master Maine Guide would. More importantly he has mastered the art of character development. His descriptive technique streams a more vivid story than any video medium could ever deliver. The writing itself was remarkably moving. The way the author described the scenery and the treacherous ride down the river allowed the reader to vicariously ride along. In truth, I feel that this was one of the best books I have ever read.

— DON KLINER legendary Master Maine Guide

A fascinating tale of a remote Maine adventure, a new Northwoods legend.

A page turner that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning wanting more. The depth of the characters, the excitement of the wilderness, the description of the scenery, and the passionate way in which the author tells this tale are all reasons that I would recommend this book. This is a multi-layered story that keeps you guessing and grabs you at one corner, then with a turn has you feeling compassion and empathy for the characters at the next. The descriptive way in which the story is told makes you feel as though you are camp side along with the characters in the wilderness of Maine, hearing the river rush by. The pureness of the environment that surrounds the characters translates itself into the minds of the characters themselves. Captivating.
